The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) says it is well-equipped to pay the 5,000 senior high school graduates who will at the end of this month be employed to assist with basic health care delivery at CHPS compounds in rural communities. Speaking on the Point of View on Citi TV, the Head of Corporate Affairs of the agency, Emmanuel Kwasi Afriyie, argued that all the agency’s programmes under this administration have been sustained and this will be no exception. “Since the time we had lawyer Justin Koduah as CEO till the time of my current boss, there has never been any instance where our beneficiaries have come out to complain about unpaid allowances. We manage our programmes very well.” “We are fully prepared to sustain the programme.” He further indicated that the programme beneficiaries will be paid GH¢400. Ghana Manganese Company GMC on Thursday made over 300 staff redundant and suspended their operation with immediate effect, saying the business was “not sustainable” in its current. The company blamed inflation, the Russian Ukraine war and increasing competition as the reason for the lay-offs, despite record operating profits. GMC owns and operates the Nsuta manganese mine in the western region of Ghana. GMC holds a mining concession for manganese over an area of 175 square kilometres in and around Nsuta in the Western Region of Ghana, less than 3% of which has been mined to date. GMC ore is one of the highest manganese-to-iron ratio ores in the market (Mn:Fe ~31) and is low in phosphorous, alumina and other heavy metal impurities, making it well-suited for both alloy and manganese metal production. Nsuta is in very close proximity to Tarkwa, which is a well-established mining center due to the large gold mining activities around it.
